Approximately 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure said the incident made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
