Football Recap: Denver Mount Fourth-Quarter Rally Versus Philadelphia, Ravens Endure Historic Home Defeat
Broncos Overcome Eagles in Thrilling Finish
Denver's quarterback found a short scoring throw and the running back contributed another rushing score in the fourth quarter as the Broncos erased a 14-point deficit to hand the Eagles their initial defeat of the campaign. The Broncos batted down Jalen Hurts' last-gasp attempt on the contest's last snap to send the Super Bowl champions to just their second loss in their last 22 games. Denver (three wins and two losses) got fortunate in their rally when the Philadelphia had a late fourth-down conversion called back on a formation infraction called on running back Saquon Barkley.
Texans Dominate Depleted Ravens in Record Win
Houston's quarterback threw for 244 passing yards and four scoring throws, and Houston (two wins and three losses) strolled to a decisive victory over a depleted Baltimore team, matching both the most lopsided road win in the franchise's record books and the most lopsided home loss in Ravens' history. Baltimore (one win and four losses) were without two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson, and that was not their only problem. Defensive standouts multiple defensive leaders all missed the game, and the Baltimore already were depleted on defense because of a cervical issue that concluded the defensive lineman's season. The Ravens were also missing Pro Bowl blocker Ricard and tackle Ronnie Stanley.
Las Vegas Raiders 6–40 Indianapolis Colts
Indianapolis' running back scored three rushing scores and a two-point conversion, and the quarterback passed for two touchdown passes as the Indianapolis Colts routed the Raiders. This decisive advantage was Indy's largest since 2013. The quarterback finished 20 of 29 for 212 passing yards and moved to 4-1 as a starter this year, exceeding his combined victory total over the previous two years with the New York Giants. Taylor rushed 17 times for 66 yards and caught three passes for 20 receiving yards. The Colts turned a blocked punt, two interceptions and a turnover on downs into touchdowns. Las Vegas fell to four wins and one loss.
Cowboys Soar Past Jets in High-Scoring Game
Dallas' quarterback threw four scoring throws, guiding the Cowboys to a comfortable win over the Jets. Dallas put points on the board on two 90-yard drives in the second period, even with being without four starters on the offensive line. The running back ran for 135 yards and a score and also hauled in a TD pass. The Cowboys, now two wins, two losses, and a tie, bounced back from a high-scoring draw against the Packers last Sunday. The Jets remain winless at zero wins and five losses in their new coach's inaugural year as the leader.
Minnesota Vikings 21–17 Cleveland Browns
Minnesota wideout Addison caught a 12-yard scoring reception from the quarterback with under half a minute remaining to give the Vikings a win over the Cleveland Browns at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This methodical march gave the Minnesota (3-2) a much-needed win on their historic international road trip, which started with a narrow defeat to the Steelers in Dublin last Sunday. This also marred the rookie's first NFL start, as the Cleveland rookie put his team (1-4) in contention by passing for two scores. Another first-year player Judkins gained 110 yards on 23 carries. Wentz overcame a shoulder injury that temporarily forced him out and led two touchdown marches in the second half.
Miami Dolphins 24-27 Carolina Panthers
Bryce Young threw for two touchdowns and the running back rushed for 206 yards and a score as the Carolina Panthers rallied past the Miami Dolphins in Charlotte. The quarterback's quick throw to rookie tight end Mitchell Evans with under two minutes to play gave the Panthers (2-3) the lead for good as they equaled the largest comeback to secure victory in franchise history by overcoming a large deficit. Young had a poor start, but he finished 19 completions on 30 attempts for 198 yards with one pick. The backup, filling in for the sidelined starter, did his damage on the run on 23 carries, falling four yards shy of the team's all-time rushing mark. Miami's quarterback completed 27 of 36 for 256 passing yards with three scores and Jaylen Waddle gained 110 receiving yards on six receptions and added a touchdown, but the Dolphins (1-4) dropped to 0-3 in road games.
Saints Secure First Win Under New Coach
Spencer Rattler threw an 87-yard score to receiver Shaheed, defensive back Howden scooped up a loose ball the length of the field for a score, and the Saints beat the error-prone Giants for the Saints' initial win under first-year head coach Moore. Rattler secured his maiden win in 11 career starts, passing for 225 yards without a turnover. New York's first-year signal-caller Dart, who secured his debut last week, passed for 202 yards and two touchdowns, but also committed errors three times. The Giants gave up possession on five separate plays in all, with none worse than when Bryan Bresee stripped running back Cam Skattebo, resulting in Howden's TD. Each squad are one win and four losses.
